How the coffee rating works

It rates the beans, not each cup.

  • Your verdict counts in fullThe stars you give the coffee itself (on its page, or when you finish a bag).
  • Otherwise, your best cup counts halfIf you only brewed it, your best cup stands in, because a coffee is as good as the best cup you got out of it.
  • Sour or bitter brews don't countA brew you marked clearly sour or bitter is about the extraction, not the beans.
  • Café cups count as they areA barista made them.
  • New coffees start in the middleEvery coffee starts near the community average, so one 5★ can't top the charts, and it shows a rating from two people on.

This coffee: 1 verdict and 2 best cups. Its 10 brews average 3.9★: that's about the brewing.

About this coffee

The Maragogipe is one of coffee's great rarities, a spontaneous mutation of Typica first discovered in Bahia, with oversized 'elephant beans'. A deep, jammy sweetness of red fruit and jabuticaba with a tangy tamarind finish. Jean Faleiros grows this lot at 1160 masl in Alta Mogiana; a light roast of rare complexity.
